The DAFTAS Celebrate The Trademark

The DAFTAS organisers gathered at Christabel’s private members club in Central London to celebrate great news ahead of Christmas.

Joined by the DAFTAS’ judge Tom Lawes and past winners including Darren Charman (Best Male Actor 2020 – The Fetishman), Phil Lewis (Team Leader of Once Upon a Time in Peckham, 2020), and Nik Orlov (Best Original Score 2020 – Once Upon A Time in Peckham), the founder of The DAFTAS Tamara Orlova ‘took to the stage’ to wish all gathered a very Merry Christmas.

“I’m pleased to announce that we have finally trademarked The DAFTAS, so that no one can use our name anymore,” said the founder with a nod to Times article of May 2021 that unlawfully used The DAFTAS name and concept to make mockery of BAFTA TV Nominations and current political climate.

“As soon as I saw the article in the Times, I contacted the Editorial Team and asked them to add a disclaimer that their article has nothing to do with us. But they were not willing to do that. Instead they went down the legal route asking me whether the product was copyrighted.” The founder continued: “In a run up for our second edition of The DAFTAS, I didn’t have the luxury of time to indulge in replying or explaining the Copyright laws to the editor. I just applied for a trademark.”

The new DAFTAS logo was also unveiled at the event to the cheerful encouragement of the crowd.
