DAFTAS 2021 Date Confirmed

The organisers of the DAFTA confirmed DAFTAS 2021 edition to take place on 8th of April 2021. Plus, new entry and selection rules.

Earlier this year, the organisers of DAFTAS confirmed the date of the 2021 edition to take place in February next year. However, not long after the announcement of the UK-wide lockdown, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the new date of their ceremony. – set for April 11th, 2021.

“As our schedule is dependant on the BAFTA timings, the DAFTAS 2021 edition will take place on the 8th of April 2021,” said the founder of the awards Tamara Orlova Alvarez. She continued, “On that day, the judges of The DAFTAS will decide on the winners of the competition. We’ve set up the festival with the aim to show all shortlisted films on a big screen to our audience. But due to Coronavirus restrictions, this might not be possible. And so we made a decision to hold our 2021 ceremony ‘Online’. Namely, we will have a cosy gathering in a stylish streaming room, set up with screens and wires, and mics and lighting and viewers will be able to watch the awards ceremony online on their phones or mobile devices from the comfort of their own home.”

How about more films? “It is not yet certain how many films will be shortlisted for BAFTA in 2021,” said the founder of DAFTAS. We will be able to confirm that closer to date. However, as DAFTAS 2021 will take place online, we will open entries to a larger number of filmmakers.
